Perhaps you've heard of a movie called "Milk" the story of Harvey Milk, the first openly gay politician who lived in San Francisco. Now if you lived the the 1960's you might remember this tragic story, but if you're under the age of 40 you probably have never herd of Harvey Milk. Harvey was essentially the Martin Luther King Jr. for gays around the country fighting for equal rights for homosexuals. He never gave up on his dream of becoming a politician and ran for multiple offices in San Francisco. He finally won the elected seat of city supervisor and vowed to voice the needs of the Castro's people.

Sadly he was shot to death by a fellow city supervisor in 1978, also shot dead was San Francisco's mayor George Mascone. I went to the Castro for the first time and retraced the steps of Harvey Milk. Included are photos of Harvey Milk's camera shop, where he based his campaigns, which is now a boutique where they have honored Harvey with a mural. I HIGHLY recommend that everyone see this film, Sean Penn won an Oscar for best actor for this film just a week ago!
